EP Trustless

Inspired by Metallica, Avenged Sevenfold, Guns N’ Roses, Dream Theater and Megadeth, these songs blend heavy and melodic in a memorable manner, and written by a Berklee College of Music student.

During his second semester at Berklee, Gabriel worked on writing his own music and lyrics, so he could have full songs to release during his summer break.

The “Trustless” EP came to be at the end of May 2018, after Gabriel recorded drums, guitars, bass and synths for the songs, as well as getting help of Cameron Lafond (a student at Berklee) to record vocals, and then mixed and mastered by Zach Munowitz (a student at Berklee).

The songs are a mixture of his main influences (Metallica, Guns N’ Roses, Avenged Sevenfold, Megadeth and Dream Theater), and combine both heavy and melodic aspects perfectly.

Hold On (Let Loose)

A song that features a The Offspring vibe with a drop of metal– the guitar riffs are aggressive and harmonised, the chorus is catchy and the guitar solo is astounding.

Blend in Eddie Van Halen’s tapping, Synyster Gates’ sweeps and Kiko Loureiro’s octave slides, and you’ve got Hold On (Let Loose)’s guitar solo.

Snakewine

A build-up approach towards the chorus, starting only with clean guitars, vocals and a string ensemble, reminiscent of Evanescence’s song style. The chorus breaks in with drive in the vocals and heavy distortion in the guitars, shifting the mood from sweet to earth-shattering. The song peaks at the 2nd pre-chorus, when all instruments create tension that has to be released somehow, and thus the guitar solo kicks in. From then on, the song’s momentum does not decrease until the outro, where a “pull-the-plug” is used, similar to The Beatles’ “I Want You (She’s So Heavy)” and Dream Theater’s “Pull Me Under”.

Golden Skies

The heaviest track of the three. Creating a hallow and mysterious introduction featuring reversed melodies and an atmosphere similar to Dream Theater’s “Home”, the song REALLY kicks in with the pounding drums and the harmonised guitars, inspired by Avenged Sevenfold. The riffs are heavy in the verses and mellow in the chorus, creating balance. The drums in this track have a constant double-bass drum, making the song seem like a punch to the face.

Lyrics

Hold on, let loose
Go make up your excuse
Don’t try to run
From the lies that you have shun

Changing from place to place
Looking at your legacy
Swapped the flower in its vase
For your diamond jealousy

Too young to ride
You’re not a casino
The end of the line
Abandon your ego

Hold on, let loose
Go make up your excuse
Don’t try to run
From the lies that you have shun

Smokescreen to a fool
Protects the ghosts from you
But I can see them through
And mistakes are hard to undo

Hold on, let loose
Go make up your excuse
Don’t try to run

From the lies that you have shun
Hold on, let loose
Don’t make up an excuse
Don’t try to run
From the lies that you have shun

Twisting the story
About who ate the apple
With the venom in its essence
Shows what the world thinks about you
A shedding of skin
When we leave the scene
Without mercy or repent
Hiding colors of what’s true

This tale full of lies
And the sin in your eyes
Will be made into snakewine
Cunning sidewinder
You slide through my veins
Poisoning my life
Leaving it with stains
You can’t live without me
You slide through my veins

Leaving it with stains
You’ve laid your eggs
But didn’t hide from your prey
Without caution on your actions
The fox will get you to pay
This tale full of lies
And the sin in your eyes
Will be made into snakewine
It took eleven days
But you will be trustless
When the lies that you raise
Feel the joy of justice

Cunning sidewinder
You slide through my veins
Poisoning my life
Leaving it with stains
Sadly, I’m immune
To the venom you prune
So listen to the melody
Of the fall of my enemy

His teachings
Were distorted
Spilling blood
Upon this world
Holy soldiers
Destined to die
Killing blindly
Ones of their kind

Sacrificial
Deaths from below
Somber to ones
Who sees them grow
Decaying
Gold up here
Killing Earth ‘till disappear
‘Till we disappear
Flare-up the deserts
To look down on sin
We won’t be defied
Wait for golden skies

Trapped in regression
Where the world is mortal
Ignorance is key
In the sands’ decree

Flare-up the deserts
Looked down on sin
All will be defied

No more golden skies
